again again!

Hey well I am still going with the project! I'm having fun with it! This week I did a collage of Connemara and a line drawing and some prints with it that I can compare and contrast to the city ones. This is really interesting as the shapes, colour and textures in each are completely different! I played around with photoshop too and got some cool results of country scenes so i might do the same to city scenes and see what happens! One of my collages didnt join up perfectly but I like it like that so I think I will paint in between and on the photos so the piece is half imaginary! I also need to work with more 3D and texture pieces and also more analytical drawing so that's what I hope to move on with this week! I'm thinking of making city shapes out of country textures and country images out of city textures! I think this could be really interesting! I also hope to have pictures up on this next week of everything I've done so far! Type soon!

Another update!!

Howdy! Well I'm loving my new project idea and the way it's going! Today I did around 79 million prints from 5 woodcuts I did from the collage. The way every picture turns out different amazed me and I liked that so I think I'm going to keep comparing things to eachother! For example I did drawings of the same sketch from two different directions and it looks completely different one of them makes the street look really tall and daunting whil the other taken from above makes the street lok small and insignificant! It's class! I've done a college of panoramic views of the country now too and hope to do loads with that! While I also aim to tak panoramic views of seascape and of the lovely Connemara mountains (That one should be really nice I hope the weather is nice to see the cool colours!). A really cool idea just popped into my head there too to do a picture looking at the landscape views but painting it in the complete opposite side of the colour wheel! That could be a disaster or really cool so I think I'll try it! Talk soon!!!! Nicole!

Follow on 4 for The Urban Environment

Okay, well I had my review and feedback and I thinkn everybody including me knows now that I despise maps and cartography!
The only piece that was still interesting me was the panoramic collage of photos I took from the top of riverpoint offices. I am now focusing on these collages and using a viewfinder to focus in on certain parts of it and I am doing tonal excersizes, prints and line drawings of the sections at the moment but I hope to move on and do a painting, a multimedia piece and 3-D piece!
I hope this direction of the project will work out for me!

Follow on again!

Well I did some more texture maps in different ways of the same route I had done before but because of the stupid rain I couldn't get any more rubbings done...BRING ON THE SUN! So I started doing different maps to do with my memories of holidays! I did my trip to Scotland on a ferry and all of the places I have flown! I drew the outline of a map of Ireland too and I think I might link the places that mean something to me but I'm not sure yet! I finished the flip book too, it's cool but so big it doesnt flip well! I am still planning on doing my riverpoint collage I just havent gotten around to it yet! Hopefully this week I will! I'm half thinking of doing something in feltmaking too because making it in the workshop was so fun! I'm kind of a bit stuck at the moment and I might try escape from maps for a while, but I'll see where it brings me anyway!

Oh and I know I havent any pictures up yet but I will this week some time I promise!
Bubye for now!

hiya!.! Well this week I kept going with my maps idea!.! I made a map of the textures on my most walked path in limerick by making rubbings and sticking them together, I'm going to keep adding to this map too and see what happens!.! I also. Did a map of where I walked in one day!.! I'm nowdoing a flip book of that path, I'm painting it to miX up my media a bit but it is a slow progress!.! I also want to print out large prints of some photos I took from the top of riverpoint offices and joining them up!.! I might then do a linear drawing of the building shapes from that and do a print from it!.! I'll see where my maps bring me:-)! ! Bubye for now!.!

Follow On 1

Okay, well I have one map, My Personal Map of Limerick finished so now I am going to make different types of maps. I was told to keep going with personal maps and I think I will. My next map I might do on a different structure. I'm thinking of doing a specialised map of where my favourite shops and stuff are in Limerick on a shopping bag, so I'm going to have to go around Limerick a bit more! Then I might do a map of my favourite places to eat etc are on maybe a paper cup or something!

My Urban Environment

Hi, I'm a first year art and design student in LSAD. We were given a project on The Urban Environment so I started to work on it!
My first thoughts were to research where the city came from so I looked up what was in and around Limerick 100's of years ago such as King John's castle and drew them. Following that I started to focus on transport and how that developed as the city did, but it was a bit too much like a schoolgirl's history project.
I'm now focusing on the idea of maps. I've gotten old and new maps of Limerick and am planning on sometime layering them to show the growth but for now I'm making MY map of Limerick. As I don't know Limerick I'm making a map of my two major routes both on foot and in car, from Grove Island to Clare Street and Georges Quay and the bus stop that brings me home! In the map I'll show what I see of Limerick and my favourite parts!
So Tada!
